Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception

Book 4 of the Artemis Fowl series starts off at Argon's Clinic, a hotpital-like place where people could get treatment. In this case, for Opal Koboi, (book 2, The Arctic Incident) she is getting treatment for a coma. Argon has guards everywhere guarding her. But little do the Guards know, is that she is going to beak out of her com soon. How? Because she is in a self-induced coma, something that is like going into a deeper part of sleep. Then the two Brill janitors, Scant and Merv, turn off the lights, attach a sedative pad on the guard, and wait for him to fall asleep. When he does, they wake up Opal, and replace her with a clone, a shell that can only do simple activities, like keep a brain moving, but not the body, just like how a person is in a coma. Opal sees that the clone's eyes are open and commands the Brill borhters (Scant and Merv) to close them. Then, whien Opal and the Brill brothers get out of the clinic, the give Opal the heads up on what's happening, and Opal thinks of ways that they (Opal and the Brill brothers) can humiliate them (Commander Root, Foaly, Artemis, and Captain Short. Somehow, they forget Butler, but probably because they don't want to mess with him cause he's huge and muscular). Opal commands (yet again) them to get the surgeon to change her ears (so she looks like a human) How will the Lower Elements find Koboi is alive (since they think that Opal is in a coma) if her face is altered??

Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incedent

Artemis Fowl and the Arctic Incident the second book of the Artemis Fowl series starts off 2 years ago, when Artemis Fowl Sr. was captured in Murmansk, Russia. Then time speeds up to where Holly, a police captain, is at stakeout duty with private Verbil Chix (both faeries too). They run a thermal check to see whats happening (and it's regulation). They run a thermal and see gray (no heat) objects moving, which is impossible since no heat means no power/energy. Anyway, Verbil gets hit in the wing, and Holly goes saves him and chases after the monsters who did it. Turns out it was goblins, equipped with softnoses (a type of ray gun that makes the laser move so slow that the laser can actually tear apart any solid object. So mainly saying, it's really deadly to living things) that are made compatible to human pencil batteries. Holly stuns them and takes them into Police Plaza for questioning. Meanwhile, in Ireland, Artemis Fowl Jr. (just Artemis Fowl. If I mean Artemis Fowl Sr. I'll add Sir) leaves school to find out what that email Butler (Artemis's bodyguard, companion) found that relates to the Fowl Star, the ship Artemis Sr. flew on that crashed in Murmansk. Later, Artemis finds out that his father has been captured and taken hostage (by the email), so Artemis fowl goes to Fowl Manor, his house, but is blocked by Holly and takes Butler and Artemis to Haven, the capital of the elven land. There he is questioned by Commander Root, the commander (no, way...). While questioning the goblin, they find out that the batteries were taken and smuggled to the goblins by a human, and Holly thinks Artemis did it. Later when Foaly (a centaur who builds all of this technological stuff that is decades beyond human stuff) searches through Artemis's mind with a cool gizmo, the find out that Artemis had nothing to do with the goblins. Instead, Commander Root, Captain Short (Holly) think that they could use Butler to find out who is the mysterious human smuggler, while Artemis needs help with rescuing his father. What will happen?

The Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan

The Sea of Monsters, by Rick Riordan, is the second installment of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. In this book, Percy (son of Poisidon) goes to Meriwether College Prep, a school that is outrageously positive. When gian humans (literally, Giants) come to Percy's school, Percy, along with Annabeth (daughter of Athena) and his friend Tyson(?, Annabeth has a disliking to him) save the school and kill the Giants. Unfortuanately, the mist wrapped around the mortals so much that the mortals believe that Percy bombed the school. When Percy and Co. escape the school on the Gray Sister's taxi, one of the sisters tell Percy some numbers () :the place that he seeks. When Percy finally gets to camp, he finds the camp overrun by bronze bulls and saves Clarrise (daughter of Ares) and go into camp and find the camp burnt and ruined, but still intact. He sees Chiron leaving and asks him why. He points to Thalia's (daughter of Zeus, got turned into a tree because, while she, Annabeth, and Luke [son of Hermes, now evil because he thinks his father doesn't like him and is cruel because he doesn't answer his prayers, so is now helping Kronos{bad titan, tried to kill the gods but Zeus and the other gods chopped him up and sent him to Tarturus {(and recycling bin for monsters because monsters reform)}}] were having a last stand at Camp Half-Blood [the camp Percy's at], she was going to fight all the monsters off and Zeus took pity on her and turned her into a magical tree) tree and looks at it. The needles are yellowed. The tree was poisoned.
What will happen next?
The book is well written and is full of action, rule-breaking, and mysteries. It is sort of like a more recent The Oddessey, by Homer, just with a little change. Same Sea of Monsters, Scylla, Charybdis, Sirens, and Polyphemus. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Lost Hero, by Rick Riordan

The Lost Hero, by Rick Riordan, is a sequel of a series to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.  This series is called the Heroes of Olympus and has to do with Rachel Elizabeth Dare's prophecy.

Seven half-bloods shall answer the call

To storm or fire the world must fall.

An oath to deep with a final breath,

And foes bear arms to the doors of Death

It starts off as Jason, a demigod, on a bus and not remembering how he got on the bus that is going on a field trip. He can't remeber Piper, his "girlfriend" and his best friend Leo. While on the bus, Piper and Leo try to recall Jason's memeries, but they don't come back. When the bus stops at the museum, one of his classmates turns into an evil air spirit, a venti, and tries to take Jason away from the museum, and instead takes Leo, their P.E. teacher, Coach Hedge, who is their protector and savior (a satyr, but you'll have to read the Percy Jackson series to find that out) jumps on the venti and the venti, instead of taking Leo, takes Coach Hedge and dissappears with him. Then Annabeth (daughter of Athena) and Butch (son of Iris) come take them to Camp Half-Blood, where they discover their father's and mother's identities.

This book is very well written and has an amazing plot. The charactersyou love in Percy Jackson  series are also in this book. If you enjoyed Percy Jackson, you'll definately enjoy this one!!! Also, unlike Percy Jackson, the chapters change the point of view.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw, by Jeff Kinney

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is centered around Greg Heffley, a self-centered middle-schooler who is over-confident. The story starts off, mainly (since a middle-schooler has to have some not-really-essential-to-the-plot stories, right? I mean, is everyone who is in middle school's life all a big story???) as someone eating all of the snacks in the snack bin. So Greg keeps on repeatedly falling asleep in class because all he gets in lunch are 2 fruits and no snacks, which are Gregs essential to staying awake and having enough energy in class. So one day, Greg falls asleep in one of his classes, and didn't wake up until the next period, so he got signed detention. And then, trying to find out who the person who keeps on eating the snacks, he "campouts" near the snack bin and when he finds who it was..., well, you'll be surprized. Also another main story plot is when he sees one of his old enemies, a teenager called Lenwood Heath, who got sent off into military school to learn to behave because when he used to live in the neighborhood, he was lighting someone's trash on fire. Anyway, when Greg, his dad, and his brother Rodrick go to the movies, they see Lenwood being like a gentleman working at the movie theater. When Lenwood and Greg's dad were talking, Lenwood got the idea in Greg's dad's head that he should send Greg to military school. Greg tries to avoid it, but in the end...you'll have to find out!
Jeff Kinney really appeals to young readers because Kinney makes Greg seem so life-like and real. Some of the kids around here probably can actually relate to Greg. I know I could. And he actually makes the book seem like a diary (journal, as Greg calls it) by putting pictures and adding dates and whatnot. Also, sometimes the plot goes out of line for a bit, like one day...then the next day, something different, then the 3rd day.... It is actually real and appeals to many teenagers.

New Moon, by Stephenie Meyer

In the beginning of New Moon, it's Bella's (mortal) birthday, and Edward and Alice Cullen(vampires, by the way) are planning a birthday party at their house with only the Cullens (all vampires) and Bella. When she reaches the door, she sees Emmett, Rosalie, Edward, Alice, Jasper, Carlisle, and Esme. When Bella gets a paper cut by cutting herself on a present tag, she is suddenly surrounded by 6 suddenly ravenous vampires. Who is the not ravenous vampire?? You'll have to read this book for yourself!
This book is an excellent book, and even though people say that it is a "girl book", it is still a very good book, along with the rest of the series. The part that I like the most about this book is that the series is not a repeat over and over, but a bunch of different plots every single time. The plot changes every time, but the characters don't. Also Stephenie Meyer has written, not only books in Bella's view, but one in Bree's view (Eclipse, people) and, on her website, one in Edward's view.

Huntress, by Malinda Lo

Huntress is set in the same world as Ash, but it takes place many centuries earlier. There are some significant cultural differences between the time periods, so if you liked Huntress, but didn't like the people or cultures, read Ash.
Alright, Huntress starts off as a person seeing a beach of ice and seeing a girl, Kaede rowing away from the islang/peninsula the person is standing on and his/her's hearts breaks because he/she realizes that he/she loves the girl. Then Kaede is planting seed for growing. She is already way past her usual time for planting seeds because usually, people plant seeds in spring or summer, right? Well, this year, summer didn't come and the sun hasn't shown for months. People are starving and food supplies are running low. Kaede is suddenly asked (more like commanded) to go to the Council of Sages, a group of sage/magician/witch people that can use magic but, like nuns, cannon marry to someone. When she got to the Council of Sages, many people where already there: Maire Morighan, the Mistress of the Academy, Sister Nara, Sister Ailan, Sister Yuna, King Cai, Lord Raiden (the King's chancellor), and a girl that Kaede remembered had private lessons with Sister Ailan. Suddenly Kaede remembered the name: Taisin
Then the King spoke, "I have had an invitation to meet the Fairy Queen." Kaede asked, "What does that have to do with me?" and then Taisin spoke. "I had a vision about you."
Well, what happens next? A love romance? An action-packed book?
I liked this book because it is weird and different because it is about a sage falling in love with a girl and sages cannot fall in love with anyone, and Taisin is one of the best sages. Also it is one of those books where people go on an adventure to rescue or save something. If you enjoy those books, then you'll also enjoy this one. Also, the end has a small twist of plot, which always makes books interesting.
