Elfstones of Shannara, by Terry Brooks

Book 2 of the Shannara trilogy, The Elfstones of Shannara does not displease fans of what their imagination had in store for them when they were eagerly waiting to get this book. While this book hardly mentions Flick and Shea Ohmsford, the two main characters in The Sword of Shannara. The book completely skips over Hendel, the dwarf, Menion Leah, the Prince of Leah, or Durin and Dayel, the cousins of Eventine, the Elven King. The book slightly mentions Balinor, the King of Callahorn, but it goes in depth about Eventine and his two sons, Arion and Ander, the princes. Allanon is still in there, along with Shea's grandson (as 50 years have passed since Shea defeated the Warlock Lord) Wil Ohmsford, a healer training with the Stors, a group of friendly gnomes who are the world's (their world's, anyway) best healers. When Allanon comes to Storland (the land of the Stors, of course) to ask Wil to accompany an elven girl, Amberle, on a quest to go to Arborlon, the elf capital, to find the seed of the Elicrys tree, the tree that has been protecting the elves by locking the demons in the Forbidding, because the Elicrys tree is dying and the Forbidding is weakening. Already some of the demons have escaped through the Forbidding.
When Wil and Amberle find the seed, they must go to the Bloodfire in the Safehold. Only problem is that no one knows where the Safehold is.
The Elfstones of Shannara good, but not as good as The Sword of Shannnara, I think. The plot is sort of the same, except that demons, and the most fearful demon, the Reaper, who kills instinctively, is hunting them, along with furies and demon-wolves and other fearful demons. And in the party of people who go find the Bloodfire, most of the party gets killed within the chapter. All except Wil and Amberle. There is less description in this book, but the plot gets confusing. Some new characters are introduced in The Elfstones of Shannara, but most of them are only one book characters.
Besides being overly confusing, the book is pretty good. I enjoyed it and I think you will enjoy it too.
